From a very early age, Philip has never been far away from pencils, paper and the smell of paint. Encouraged by his parents, he attended specialized art programs in Ottawa eventually graduating from the prestigious Sheridan College of Art & Design in 1971.
After graduation, Philip returned to Ottawa to assume a position with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a television graphic/set designer. In 1976, after winning a coveted art director position, the CBC moved Philip, Diane and their young family to St. John’s Newfoundland. The isolation and stark beauty of this rugged island enabled Philip to produce a series of successful exhibitions, which ultimately led to the decision that he would give up his design career and take up painting full-time.
This move gave Philip the freedom to travel to some of the most interesting and picturesque parts of the world. India, Morocco, Europe and the U.S. all became his inspiration for a series of successful solo exhibitions over the next twenty years. As of late, Philip has been focusing on the Canadian landscape, including subjects from Newfoundland, Georgian Bay, Quebec to the Coast of British Columbia. He approaches these with the same freshness of eye as he always has.
Philip’s pictures are in a number of important private and corporate collections throughout the world. He shows annually with Loch Gallery in Toronto, each exhibition demonstrating Craig’s strive to push forward the execution of his skills in creating a mature personal style of painting recognizable by his gift of light.
This year Philip and his wife Diane Partnered with their son Jonathan and his wife Bridget to open a Gallery in Meaford Ontario. Jonathan and Bridget curate and operate the gallery and Philip and Diane keeps a steady supply of new paintings.
