We are a family-run, commercial art gallery located in Meaford, Ontario. We feature the work of living contemporary Ontario artists, including many who live locally. Art is available in a variety of mediums including, painting, print, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and jewelry. We have several artists who show regularly as well as 1-3 group shows every year.
Our Story
My name is Bridget Light Craig, and my husband Jonathan Craig and I opened Craig Gallery in 2019.
This business was conceived after we’d been living in the Meaford Municipality (near Bognor) for a few years, and I was coming to the end of a professional contract and trying to figure out what to do next… My mother-in-law Diane (who is very entrepreneurial) made the brilliant suggestion of opening up an art gallery.
Jonathan and I are both deeply passionate about art (in all its many forms), he is from a family of artists, and at the time we’d just become involved with the Walters Falls Artist Group (Jonathan is now a permanent member). The thought of having a family gallery where everyone’s work could be displayed together, was an exiting idea. At the same time we were also becoming very aware of the amount of talented artists living in the greater area, and it was important right from the start for us to also offer a wide selection of local art. It just so happened that there was a great space available to rent right in Meaford and in August 2019, Craig Gallery was born.
These past several years have been a real roller coaster with highs and lows, it has been so professionally (and personally) fulfilling running this art gallery. Jonathan and I are grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community and proud to promote such exceptional art.
Craig Family
When I say that “Jonathan is from a family of artists,” I literally mean, “They are all artists!”
Philip Craig is a renowned Canadian painter, currently based out of Perth, ON, whose work is shown in galleries across the country, and is collected around the world. Diane Craig is a jewelry designer, who has been involved in many entrepreneurial endeavours including owning and operating an animation studio in the late 90s/early 00s.
Diane and Phil’s children followed them into careers in the arts. Jordan Craig is a professional photographer and musician who has recently began his own painting journey. Shannon Craig Morphew is an established painter whose work is collected across Canada, and Jonathan Craig (as well as helping to run the gallery) is an actor and special FX makeup artist in TV and film.
Our Volunteers
Craig Gallery would not be able to run without the help of many people. When the gallery is open and it isn’t Jonathan or myself behind the desk to great you, it is one of our amazing volunteers. Thank you to everyone who “gallery sits” for us on occasion, with special thanks to Karen Fagan, Jen Burak and Nick Furgiuele.
We are also eternally grateful to Philip and Diane Craig who have been with us on this journey from the beginning, and have done everything from loaning us start-up money to transporting art across the province and everything in between!
