Rick Chard
After studying photography and design at Humber College and OCAD Rick began his career at TDF Artists, a commercial studio in Toronto. From there he realized his interests lay more towards the editorial style of photography and decided to go out on his own as a freelancer. During this period Rick worked as an assignment photographer with Maclean’s magazine. This continued for approximately ten years. Since that time he has worked with numerous magazines and agencies, both in the public and private sector.
More recently his assignments have been more of a corporate nature, still with an emphasis on people. His personal works have found homes in private collections throughout North America and Europe.
For many years Rick has been spending time in the Sonora desert in the American Southwest. Being in the desert has given him the opportunity to recalibrate his approach to photography. Most recently he began an exploratory project on the border wall in Nogales Arizona. This has evolved from a completely stills project of the wall itself to a documentary exploring the wall and the people that live with it. This project is ongoing.
